Joe Biden’s former press secretary Jen Psaki delivered a message from the White House to Hunter Biden: Stay out of the spotlight.
“Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker asked, “Jen Psaki, you had a surprise press conference from Hunter Biden this week. Did it help or hurt?”
“Look, I think if you’re in the White House right now, you’re like, ‘Please, Hunter Biden, we know your dad loves you. Please stop talking in public,” Psaki said on Sunday.
“It doesn’t benefit any of them that he’s there, but at the same time the president loves his son. That takes priority over everything else. That’s attractive. He loves his son, he loves his family and he is concerned about his mental health.”
“But yes, the White House would like him to probably leave now,” she added.
Hunter ignored a congressional subpoena to appear for testimony before the House Oversight Committee and instead delivered a speech decrying the committee’s investigation into his shady foreign business dealings and emphasizing that his father had no “financial” involvement .
Hunter’s improv press was such an optical disaster that the New York Times stepped in to change Hunter’s quotes about his father Joe Biden’s role in his business ventures.
He now faces contempt charges from Congress for defying the subpoena.
Hunter was charged last week 9 misdemeanor charges in California by special prosecutor David Weiss, who faces up to 17 years in prison.
Hunter reportedly told his family and friends that he might flee the country to avoid further prosecution if former President Donald Trump is elected next year.
Hunter’s legal and political troubles have become so prominent that Joe Biden fears they could affect his re-election chances in 2024.
By Politics:
The 81-year-old president has been highly sensitive about his son and has barked at aides who have pondered Hunter Biden as an electoral liability or at those who wondered whether he should accompany the president on the road. According to two of the five confidants, many aides are now choosing to avoid the topic for fear of angering the president. For example, no one has raised whether it would be a good idea for Hunter Biden to attend a state dinner for the Indian prime minister just days after accepting a plea deal.
However, the president does not hesitate to express his concerns by telephone to family members and a select group of confidants. He questioned them about what they thought would happen to his son and said he fears the worst if his son were convicted or given some form of prison time.
