Update (1910ET): Today’s checkpoint explosion at Niagra Falls just took an unexpected turn.
What it started with Fox news reporting a terrorism incident involving explosives is now believed to be the fault of a 56-year-old man who lived in an affluent neighborhood, went to a casino after KISS canceled his farewell tour dates in Ottawa and Toronto, and then drove his $300,000 (after taxes) Bentley Excelsior entered the border checkpoint, killing himself and his wife.
Update (1615ET): Reuters is now reporting Wednesday’s explosion at the Canada-U.S. border crossing at Niagara Falls probably caused by a reckless driver And not terrorism. Fox news also returned a report stating that the car contained explosives.
“We told you earlier that there was an explosion because there were explosives in the car, and now apparently authorities are backtracking a bit and saying it’s unclear if there were explosives and how many explosives,” said host Trace Gallagher.
“And so you can see that as the fog clears in these skies, they’re getting a better sense of what’s happening,” he said, as the network also backed away from the “terrorism” angle.
“It is clear that this is not a terrorist attack at all,” Gallagher added (via RawStory):

Fox News reports, citing sources, that the vehicle explosion at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing in Niagara Falls was an attempted terrorist attack.

There were explosives in the car at the time and two people in the car were killed, the sources told Fox News. A border guard was injured.

An explosion involving a vehicle occurred just outside the U.S. Border Inspection Area on the Rainbow Bridge at the U.S.-Canada border in Niagara Falls.
Footage from the scene shows smoke billowing into the air. It is unclear what caused the explosion and whether anyone was injured.

According to the Peace Bridge Authority, all border crossings from Canada along the Niagara River have been closed following the incident. In addition to Rainbow Bridge, Peace Bridge, Lewiston-Queenston Bridge and Whirpool Bridge are currently closed in both directions.
