Conservative journalists have been targeted with oppressive tactics, apparently to expose Joe Biden’s corruption.
On Friday, footage showed Blaze journalist Steve Baker having to take a perp walk as he was taken into custody to face charges over his reporting on the January 6 debacle.
Baker, who attended J6 as an independent journalist, has been too reporting on the anomalies surrounding the government’s official narrative of what happened that day, including debunking false Capitol Police stories about the timeline of events and the mysterious pipe bomb found at the DNC.
On Friday, after reporting to a federal courthouse in handcuffs, Baker was charged with:
- Knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or area without lawful permission
- Disorderly and disruptive behavior in an enclosed building or grounds
- Disorderly conduct in a main building
- Parading, demonstrating or picketing in a main building
The arrest was roundly criticized on social media, with many noting that the Biden regime’s so-called preservation of democracy includes the jailing of opposition journalists.
Fortunately, Baker was released shortly after his court appearance.
Similarly, recently ousted CBS News investigative journalist Catherine Herridge, who was fired by her network last month, was held in contempt in federal court on Thursday after refusing to reveal her sources regarding reports she made for Fox in 2017 News wrote claiming that Chinese-American scientist Yanping Chen was under investigation by the FBI.
Of course, protecting sources in order to pursue news stories that benefit the public interest is an essential part of the protection of the freedom of the press enshrined in the First Amendment.
As former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy noted, press freedom is ironically under attack by the very government that claims to champion democracy.
“Those who pontificate about ‘threats to our democracy’ should look closely at the threats to press freedom,” Ramaswamy said on X Friday.
