United Airlines is facing fierce criticism for hiring pilots based on race and gender rather than skill level.
The issue centers on an interview that United CEO Scott Kirby gave to Axios in June 2021, in which he admitted that the company wanted to meet a DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) quota in their United Aviate Academy, where “50 percent… of classes will be women or people of color.”
“Today, only 19 percent of our pilots at United Airlines are women or people of color, and from all the data I’ve seen, that’s the highest of any airline in the country, by the way,” Kirby said.
The United Aviate Academy is a flight training program where aspiring pilots can learn to fly and have the opportunity to work as a pilot for United Airlines.
Kirby’s admission raised concerns that the airline could be endangering the lives of passengers by hiring based on DEI standards rather than experience or other relevant factors.
Don Jr., the son of former President Donald Trump, vowed to give his business to other airlines that don’t adhere to DEI protocols.
“Is there a single U.S.-based airline that does not use DEI when hiring pilots and people involved in caring for large objects moving 600 miles per hour at 36,000 feet?” Don Jr. wrote on X Monday.
“I’d like to give them all my business! A review/booking agency that lets us know and choose based on that, like seat choices, would also be great. Despite their virtue signaling, I imagine the most insane liberals would probably want to know this too and plan accordingly.”
DEI in the aviation industry has been a topic of great interest in recent months as more and more people realize that their lives are being placed in the hands of pilots who may not have the right experience in the cockpit.
A viral social media post on this topic last week, reportedly made by an airline pilot, claimed that DEI is being implemented slowly and that older, more experienced pilots will soon retire and leave incompetent DEI employees in charge.
“If those guys retire and their numbers get too low to hold back the True Blue DEI faithful, every flight will be a roll of the dice and eventually there will be one with two defective DEI pilots in the cockpit,” the post predicted, adding, “Pray for the people on that flight; they will need it.”
“The DEI plague will not end until a plane piloted by unqualified ‘diverse’ pilots crashes into a mountainside, killing everyone on board. Just pray you don’t end up with the bad luck ticket,” said Matt Walsh of the Daily Wire.
A video filmed for social media claiming to depict the “dream team” of Spirit Aerosystems Engineering, which supplies parts for commercial airlines, showed a large group of female employees proudly attending an aviation convention.
The company was the supplier who made the door plug which blew up an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 en route from Portland to Ontario, California last week.
Law firm America First Legal noted that they had filed a complaint against United Airlines, charging them with discriminatory hiring practices for “hiring based on race and gender.”
“When you’re on a plane, do you want the most skilled pilot or the DEI mercenary?” wrote the company led by former Trump adviser Stephen Miller.
As the Kirby clip circulated on social media, TikTok’s conservative supports.
Will airlines put an end to this DEI madness before innocent passengers pay the ultimate price? Or will they simply let the public believe that lower safety standards due to DEI practices are normal?
