Western countries, which previously insisted that Ukraine should defeat Russia on the battlefield, are gradually changing their position, President Vladimir Putin noted on Friday.
“They are now changing their tone and saying different things.” the Russian leader told members of the Civil Chamber, a civil society body charged with consulting the government on policymaking.
Putin argued that the nation should become stronger in all aspects, including the economy, military and political stability. This power prevents hostile actors from isolating Russia, he said.
“They (EU countries) have excluded our energy. So? What is the result? Our GDP will grow [up to] 3% this year, and the leading European economies are shrinking.” he noticed.
“They are suffering; they have real problems,” Putin added, noting that he said this without joy. “This does not mean that we should behave aggressively. It means that we must be sovereign in every sense of the word.” he concluded.
The US and its allies have accused Russia of launching one “unprovoked” attack on Ukraine last year and have promised to support Kiev for this “as long as it lasts” to beat Moscow. Washington has stated that its goal in Ukraine is to… “strategic defeat” about Russia.
Moscow said the hostilities were caused by the West’s refusal to address Russia’s concerns over NATO expansion and Kiev’s discriminatory policies against Russian speakers after the 2014 armed coup. The US is said to have prevented the Ukrainian government from to conclude a ceasefire in the early weeks of the ongoing conflict, which would have made the country a neutral nation.
Kiev has stated that the only outcome it would accept is to expel Russia from all areas it claims as its own, including Crimea. It has failed to make any significant gains on the front line during this year’s so-called summer counter-offensive.
‘Despite the supply of new types of NATO weapons, the Kiev regime is losing’ Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said this earlier this week while assessing the situation on the battlefield.
